Shorts this summer, what you 'knee'd to know

excuse my appalling pun in the title, it's been a long day.

As my first blog post aside from an introductory one I would like to celebrate shorts, because lets face it, they are bloody fantastic (aside from requiring me to shave and tan). Shorts are far better than skirts as they can allow us to ride a bike without out pants being seen, fall over due to intoxication at a festival and not have our pants seen, and even frolic in the wind without the wind causing our.. you guessed it...PANTS TO BE SEEN. you get the gist.

However, I am the first to admit that wearing shorts can be a little scary. When it comes down to the daunting task of pulling off shorts this summer, we could all use a few pointers, so here are a few tips and tricks I have learned along the way.

1. Avoid wearing white shorts without a tan

I have unfortunately not been blessed with lovely olive skin, and we are not talking porcelain goddess here, think more dull pasty nightmare. So if you are like me and have the natural skin tone of a victoria sponge, just don't go for white denim unless you have applied fake tan or are cool enough to pull this look off. (I use make believe tan it is fantastic and doesn't smell like biscuits!)

2. Legs or Boobs!

It's a rule we all know and occasionally ignore yet it could not apply more when it comes to shorts. Since your lovely long legs are out there for the world to see it only makes sense to cover up a little bit more on the top. A casual shirt with rolled up sleeves is perfect for this.

Alexa Chung being the queen of cool and pulling rockstars, has got the shirt and short look down.

3. Beware of shortening legs with boots

Unfortunately we haven't all been blessed with endless model limbs, beware of ankle boots cutting off the appearance of your leg. If you are concious of this, opt for flat pumps or sandals with thin straps as they are good for leg lengthening

here as you can see, both Daisy Lowe and Alexa Chung look fab, yet Daisys legs do appear shorter due to her choice of boot.

4. FOR GOD'S SAKE NO BUM CHEEK

This should be written in stone and paraded round the tops of ice cream vans all summer, there is just no excuse. Admittedly I have been guilty of this a few years ago but by now we should have all learned our lesson. No matter how pert your rear is no one wants to see it dangling out the bottom of a pair of vintage Levi's. It's not fair on the Levi's, and no.... I am not going to post a picture for this one.

And there we have it, your must know rules for short wearing. Now you are free to go forth and spread your legs!!..... oh wait. Urm now you are free to go forth and show off your wonderful pins! there we go that's better.

Also, feel free to stray from denim, leather is a great alternative and paired with bright white or pops of colour you can still keep it summery!

'Writing is the most fun you can have by yourself'

The title of this post is from a quote by the late, great Terry Pratchett and one which has inspired me to start this blog. Although those of you with a dirtier mind might not agree with Terry's opinion, I for one think it is pretty spot on. Writing is the most fun you can have by yourself, except late night Netflix marathons, or eating Ben and Jerry's straight out the tub with a spoon, or an internet shopping order you had completely forgotten about arriving on a day you feel utterly rubbish... Ok Ok I'm getting carried away, back to the point.

My name is Emma Sanderson, I run a little online vintage boutique I shall post all the details of in a later post, and aside from my pets (horse, dog and kitten), I am obsessed with all things fashion and beauty. This blog will be my platform to review products, post new looks which me and my team at my vintage company are feeling, and generally ramble about things and people I adore.

Comments and feedback are always welcome, and any requests for product reviews I have not heard of will also be appreciated.

I hope you all enjoy
